Going Green
A ground
keeping is the activity of tending an area of land for aesthetic or functional purposes; typically in an institutional setting. It includes mowing grass, trimming hedges, pulling weeds, planting flowers, etc. A groundskeeper is responsible for proper maintenance and management of a company’s premises, in particular sports or recreational facilities. It is normally employed in the case of a municipality or is hired by a sports club. A grounds man needs to be familiar with the principles of modern soil and lawn care. The decision to place barriers to the protection and regeneration are also a part of his duties as marking the lines on the sports fields using a chalk carriage. These workers use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning and handsaws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes. They also use power lawnmowers, chain saws, leaf blowers, and electric clippers. Some use equipment such as tractors and twin-axle vehicles. Pesticide handlers, sprayers, and applicators, vegetation mix herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides and apply them through sprays, dusts, or vapours into the soil or onto plants. Those working for chemical lawn service firms are more specialized, inspecting lawns for problems and applying fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals to stimulate growth and prevent or control weeds, diseases, or insect infestation.
